The Day I Took Ownership of My Life
Taking ownership is not rebellion — it's restoration. It's the moment you stop waiting for someone else to change and start choosing the healing God has been offering you all along.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." — Psalm 147:3
Personal Reflection
The day I took ownership of my life was the scariest day I've ever lived. I remember sending my father a message on Facebook, telling him we needed to talk. I chose the date and time — December 27th at 2pm — a moment that felt symbolic for both of us. My aunt had passed away the day before. His birthday was two days later. And the new year was only days away.
New Year. New Life.
I was determined to finally speak my truth.
My heart longed for one thing — to understand why he didn't like me. Why he pulled me close only to tear me apart again. Why he hurt me so intentionally, so repeatedly. And still… I loved him. But I also knew I had to tell him that his behavior was unacceptable.
When the day came, denial filled the conversation. Instead of clarity, I was left confused. Instead of connection, I felt dismissed. I remember thinking, How can a human being call this love?
Thirteen months later, he passed away. And even after all the hurt, I still felt the urge to fight for his love. But I knew I couldn't live like that anymore.
So I let go. I got therapy. I did the work. I healed. My love for him never faded — but I finally took ownership of my life. It was the day I said, "Enough is enough."

Gentle Encouragement
Bright Soul, if you've been carrying the weight of someone else's wounds… breathe.
You are not responsible for another person's healing.
